The first approval.
My first review.
If you saw my last letter you should know by now that I, yes the cat, bap.kat, am taking the liberty and providing the public with a new standard of witch to live by. The *bap* approval. In the world chock full of mundane energy I find it crucial to provide the masses with proper insight to things worthy of my attention. Once again, as I stated before, if it is worthy of mine, it is certainly worthy of yours. So, without further ado let's get into it.
Swipe. Right off the bat the name intrigued me because that's my favorite thing to do to Nick's food when he’s not paying attention. Regardless, the graphics are tasteful and aesthetic, leaving just enough to the imagination as to what this game entails. The aim is to take a stab at the modern dating scene and entwine it with an interactive card game. Both of which are very complicated endeavors and yet are executed flawlessly in the final product.
The game can be played with 2 to 8 players but, I’d argue you could add more if need be. The mechanics can be grasped with the same level of IQ as a flat earther as the humor targets mature adults. The Box reads ages 17+ but if you've done your parenting or were parented correctly, which most people haven't, I'm confident you could play with anyone.
Rounds are played clockwise with the group at play known as the “dating pool” leading with the Person who got hit on last who becomes the judge or “Swiper”. So, if you're eager to go first I'd recommend getting Dutch Bros, before game night. Anyway, the round begins!
Each player is dealt/draws seven cards at which, everyone picks their most clever combo of three cards in ascending order, to be passed to the Swiper for review. The goal is to make the most intriguing dating profile such as a ”conspiracy theorist trying to penetrate the deep state, with great tits, who almost beat teen pregnancy.” Wife material am I right?
Combinations can range from clever, to funny, punchy, or paint painfully, accurate, descriptions of actual people who roam this earth. If you've seen any of the videos where I've played this anything is on the table, not just the game.
That was a great joke, laugh dammit. I guess it could be played on the floor too. For a 2-3 player game, or for extra spice, a three card “Catfish” hand is drawn at random. The Catfish profile is mixed into the dating pool with the responses submitted by the players before they’re revealed!
The Swiper then reads aloud and seeks the best profile in their opinion. The Chosen player is then awarded an emoji, and the title of Judge for the next round moves to the player on the left.
However, if the judge chooses the Catfish hand, they lose a point/emoji. Players compete for the most emojis until the emoji tiles are gone or until “you're drowning in despair”
Simple, punchy, engaging and fun. The game shelves have been long overdue for something that people can resonate with, and with the hapless grasp online dating has on the world… Swipe will not only be a game night staple but a perfect vessel to bring people off the screen and forge genuine connections. All while having a laugh at the new-age dating scene. Now, as for our give a F>u>c>k score…
Functionality - How does it work, and does it work well?
Beautiful, the mechanics are easy to follow and permit a litany of phenomenal responses. 10/10
Utilization - In what instances can it be used, is it practical?
While card games are more or less limited to game night and road trips, Swipe, raises the bar and could certainly be used on a date night or if your daring enough, using it as the template to find your true love! 8/10
Cost - A deep dive into the cost. Is the price worth it for what it is?
I think all card games are a bit steep but I’d say at $29 it is a rather modest price point as compared to it’s counterparts. 7/10
Kind - What is the intention? Does it permit good into this world?
This game is an artful take on the modern dating scene and is sure to spark Unforgettable, in person memories. 10/10
