New Year Check-In

Well folks we've got one month under our belts into this new year and weather it's eating more grass or staying a way from a certain type of grass ;) I wanted to come to you all and write about my thoughts on new years resolutions from an immortal cats purrspective.
Personally, I’ve lived too many lives to take your resolutions seriously.
Sure, I’m Siamese but don’t let the accent fool you. Before royal courts in Siam, before silk cushions and temple halls, I patrolled grain stores along the Nile. I watched the stars reset the calendar. I remember when the new year arrived not with pressure, but with water.
In Egypt, we didn’t promise to become different creatures overnight. The new year came when the Nile rose and the land renewed itself. We called it Wepet Renpet — the Opening of the Year.
Humans cleansed their homes, honored the gods (cats), gave thanks, and realigned with ma’at - balance, order, harmony. No shame. No guilt. No “new me,” only “in rhythm again.”
Cats like me weren’t self-help mascots and nor should you be. We were guardians of thresholds. Protectors of sustenance and we upheld our purpose amidst indulgence as can you.
Hell, people even gave out flasks during this time. My findings say they were for oils or perfumes but I beg to differ. Suffice to say that your purpose cannot be upheld without a balance of rest and celebration. It's sacred and nowadays that theme has been lost.
This isn't a call to forgo the last week of dry January and get blackout on a Tuesday. Although, if you know me a Taco Tuesday and 4 margaritas does sound quite tempting.
You deserve to live a little while trying new things, learn about the world, and yourself. All the while stayin true to the good that makes you you, and that this world needs.
Stay strong and finish out the month sure, but next time I hear you declare war on carbs, a little drink or joy EVERY January. Forgive my tail for flicking because the problem isn’t solved with discipline in the first month, it’s learning to balance in all of them.
You owe it to listen to yourself more. Do the work when you feel compelled to to do so. Clean your space, get that promotion. but know those things wont flea when you listen to the break or treat you need.
Sit in the sun without apology. Honor the cycles that carried you here. Begin again gently don't just gut yourself to prove to others a version of yourself you're not. Be you, listen to yourself, and make it happen like this nap I'm about to take.
